The benefits of membership in EACTM includes the following:
Professional development opportunities for teachers to ensure a mathematics education of the highest quality for all students.
Local involvement in the Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics and the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Networks of support for teachers at all grade levels, including post-secondary.
A support group for educators, allowing for social gathering that promotes friendships across school districts.
Forum for discussion of regional and local issues and provide opportunities to look for and discuss solutions to or for those issues.
An effective political voice at the state and local level.
A login and password to post forum messages at the EACTM website.
The East Alabama Council of Teachers of Mathematics is to be the public voice of mathematics education in East Alabama where members work individually and collectively for improving and ensuring the highest quality learning for all students.
In accordance with the mission the EACTM has identified the following goals:
- Provide an opportunity for promoting and sharing innovative classroom experiences and evaluation trends in the teaching of mathematics.
- Provide a forum for the discussion of new developments in mathematics.
- Provide support for teachers to develop a complete and coherent mathematics curriculum for all students with a focus on the NCTM standards and the Alabama Course of Study.
ACTM has defined EACTM to encompass 14 counties including: Autauga, Barbour, Bullock, Chambers, Coosa, Dallas, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Russell, Tallapoosa, Wilcox, and Montgomery.
We currently have 221 members in these areas.
